Coast Guard Physicals in Fort Lauderdale, FL

Joining the United States Coast Guard is an admirable pursuit. The Coast Guard is the United States’ maritime first responder, which means they are “Always Ready” to help in the event of a crisis. At Broward Medical & Urgent Care, we value the commitment of active duty and reserve Coast Guard members, and we support their mission by offering specialized Coast Guard Physicals in Fort Lauderdale, FL for men and women interested in joining theirs ranks. We are MRO-certified to perform the necessary drug testing in conjunction with Coast Guard physical exams.

What are the requirements in order for a person to qualify to join the Coast Guard?

Interested parties must be either a Resident or U.S. Citizen between the ages of 17-31 to join active duty and 17-40 to become a reservist. Men and women interested in becoming part of the Coast Guard must have a high school diploma, 3 or fewer dependants, and pass a military entrance medical exam as well as the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery Test (ASVAB).

What medical conditions could keep me out of the Coast Guard?

During your military entrance medical exam, your doctor will screen for specific health conditions that may disqualify you from service. It is important during your exam that you are open and honest with your doctor regarding your health history and any symptoms you have or may have had in the past. Certain gastrointestinal disease, arthritis, immunodeficiency and blood diseases, hearing loss, metabolic disorders, vision problems, neurological disorders, congenital anomalies, heart and vascular disease, and conditions that limit your range of motion in your extremities may all be disqualifying. Potential Cost Guard members may also be disqualified for service if they do not meet specific guidelines for height and weight or if they exhibit specific mental health, personality, conduct, or behavioral disorders.

What are the physical requirements for joining the Coast Guard?

If you pass your medical exam, you will still need to meet specific minimum performance requirements in order to become a member of the Coast Guard. Potential recruits must be able to complete these physical fitness tests within a specific time. Men will need to be able to perform a minimum of 38 bent-knee sit-ups in 1 minute, 29 push-ups in 1 minute, and a 1.5 mile run in 12m, 51s. Women will need to perform a minimum of 32 bent-knee sit-ups and 15 push-ups in the same 1 minute time frame, and complete their 1.5 mile run in 15m, 26s. Men and women will be required to complete a dive from a 6-foot platform, a 100-meter swim, and tread water for 5 minutes. By visiting with a doctor and undergoing a comprehensive physical exam, you can ensure you are in the best possible shape to attend Coast Guard training.

What type of drug test will you perform?

As part of your Coast Guard physical, you will undergo urinalysis to test for the presence of illicit substances. This drug test will screen for marijuana, cocaine, amphetamines, opioids, and synthetic cannabinoids, amongst others. We are MRO-certified for drug testing, so you can be sure you will receive the results you need for your Coast Guard certification.
